About me
Name: Meike Reichle
Nick: alphascorpii
Blog: News from the rusty
cage (feed)
(By the way alphascorpii has nothing to do with alpha
females or student unions or anything else of that sort. It's a star.)
Incidentally there is both, another alphascorpii and another Meike who deals with Linux. In order to avoid mistakes, a few rules of thumb ;-)
Meike + Debian/Hildesheim/Leipzig/IIM/AI/CBR ... me.
Meike + Suse Linux/Bremen ... not me.
alphascorpii + debian/freenode/oftc/jabber ... me.
alphascorpii + vampires/cosplay/livejournal ... not me.
My birthday: October 1981 (which makes me 24
25 26 at the moment)
I currently live in: Glasgow, Scotland
Leipzig, Germany Hildesheim, Germany
Distro: Debian!
What keeps me busy: My PhD position at the Institute of Computer Science Intelligent Information Systems Lab, my Debian work (mostly packages and talks), the Debian Women Project, my blog ...
What I like: My region of origin (Swabia), many kinds of music (Ska, Punk, Blues, Country), water, swimming, dry heat, reading, teaching people, second hand shops, exotic food, comfortable cloths, long sleeves, traveling and speaking foreign languages, irc, red wine, cinnamon and chocolate, stages, software that just works, talking to strangers, all kinds of instant food and drinks, people being diplomatic and sticking to netiquette, Tatort, yoghurt with grains in it, creative chaos, hot drinks, unsewing and unravelling things, keeping lots of lists and notices, people being nice for no apparent reason
What I don't like: Being told stuff that I know already, icky keyboards with sticky keys, the depressing ambience in doctors' waiting rooms, mobile devices with bad batteries, split ends, getting up early, bossy people, being cold or overtired, time pressure, most things on TV and how I still sometimes catch myself watching them although I know it's all trash, walking wooden stairs with slippery socks, fake vintage stuff, my glasses, oversimplified populistic pop culture politics a la Michael Moore (right point, wrong approach), most kinds of parties, how empty plastic bottles always topple down when they are touched by anything, not getting stuff done
I wish ...- the vending machine down the hall would also sell fruit and not just chocolate bars and coffee
- I could do proper french braids.
- my Spanish was better.
- I could get my stolen bike back. I really felt quite attached to it.
- I didn't need glasses.
- there were hair colours in interesting colours that didn't fade so much with each washing. (Yes, that means you, La Riche)
- I had more time.
- ... oh and world peace of course!
